The Leedahls Update – March 10, 2015

Leedahls - 031015The MRI results are in:

Jon’s 2 wounds are connected going around the bone and there is also “unhappy” muscle tissue inside. We hoped the muscle would turn fibrous, but instead it has developed pockets of dying muscle tissue because of the length of time his leg was in the tourniquet. This dying muscle tissue needs to be removed.

Jon’s muscle has also retracted a bit, leaving just bone at the edge of his stump. So he will need his bone to be cut shorter by a couple of centimeters to have better muscle coverage. This surgery can happen as soon this week.

Because it’s a potentially big surgery, we have chosen to pray about going back to the States to do the surgery or staying to have the surgery done here. We want to do what’s best for Jon’s overall health.

Please pray with us friends as we decide how to proceed. We don’t make these decisions lightly! We’ve taken each step in this unknown territory of life called “amputation & beyond” before our Heavenly Father. So glad He guides us step by step!

Tomorrow we get time with the Ortho doc to ask some more questions, pray it will be fruitful.

Thank you all for praying & walking alongside us on our journey with each twist & turn. We are overwhelmed with your love & support for us!

“But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26 NKJV)

Praying with you as you make more big decisions. I would recommend Mayo Clinic as you consider coming back to the US. I have been there and they are an AMAZING TEAM OF PHYSICIANS! You do NOT have to have a referral to get in. Just call them. We serve an incredible God, the Great Physician! We continue to pray and seek His will for Jon’s treatment, healing and your family.

I Would storngly suggest that Jon return to the states for his surgery. As a long time amputee I can tell you this next step is most of upmost importance as a well done surgery will determine how well Jo will do with a prosthetic.

You don’t know me from Adam but I knew Jon C while he was in St Louis. I have been following your updates & thought it was time I informed you of my prayerful support. As you do know, our Heavenly Father is all knowing, ever present, wise & gracious, the amazing Healer, Comforter, giver of peace & oh so much more. Praying for you to experience all of His attributes in the coming days. May the Lord shine His face upon you and give you wisdom, strength & peace. In Christ’s love, Kathy

Neal & I continue to think of you often, praying for you and your family–and now this big decision. We know He will lead you as to whether to stay there or return to the USA for this next surgery & for what is ahead re: prosthesis, rehab, PT, etc. Sending love to you all, with thanks & gratitude as you continue to show His glory & sufficiency day by day. Oh my–a big decision to make. I can almost feel the weight of it. You are so busy healing and loving each other, I wish there were no decisions for you to make at all. I pray for you to come to a point of peace and rest about this choice for Jon’s road to full recovery. I know God is ready to bless you in the US or right there in Australia where He has shown Himself strong.

    Dear Jon and Addie,

We have been praying for you and seeing God’s hand in your life. When you were at NTMA, McNeal we were on staff, but away were caring for our oldest son in MT. You may have prayed for us. Our son’s (Walt) health saga began at the Billings Clinic in Billings MT. When our son’s situation was more than serious, his doctor consulted with Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. Later Walt was flown to Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. Our son did not have the health situation you are facing but we have had experience with Mayo Clinic. From the moment we arrived we knew we were where Walt needed to be. Mayo Clinic is excellent! You do not have just one doctor but a team of doctors who work closely together caring for the patient’s entire body. From our experience we would recommend your present doctor contact the appropriate doctor at Mayo to discus your case and see if they could help you or recommend where you should go in the States. We shall be in prayer for God’s wisdom in your decision.

We thank you for the updates. We will continue to pray for all of you during this decision time. You encourage us with your faith every time we read the new happenings in your life. We do not understand of course, but know we have a big God who loves us so much and wants only the best for us. Prayer changes things, so we will keep praying like all your other partners.

    Love and prayers,
    Evelyn and Curtis

Oh how we are praying as you make this difficult decision. The results from the MRI weren’t what we wanted to hear, but we know that God knew and is paving the way for your next step. May His strength be yours.
    You are loved,
    Donya

I would ‘third’ the Mayo Clinic suggestion. I have been there myself, and they are excellent. At this point, you need the best care to get this wound healed.
