The Leedahls Update – Feb. 18, 2015

Thank you all for asking about & praying for Jon. No more tonsillitis. He’s been on antibiotics and healthy.

After his doc appt. Jon was approved for crutches today!! (Watch our video of Jon’s first time getting up with his crutches)

Jon had his consult with the plastic team yesterday. Jon’s had 2x daily care of his stump wound with hospital in the home nurses and one with me. But the healing seemed slow going & sluff was getting stubborn inside his wound. We asked for a change yesterday.

For those curious we are now using Prontosan wound irrigation and gel method. Already within 24 hours we can see progress inside. Jon’s wound is long- about 5cm and started becoming narrow making it a little harder to reach the sluff at the base of the hole. This gel should help break up the sluff, while good tissue should continue to grow. Pray for good healing from the inside out.

The docs still recommended doing this 3x daily. And to also continue weekly checks with the docs for review. We just love our hospital in the home nurses! So glad the nurses really care about Jon’s health. The nurses working on Jon are our biggest cheerleaders! Praise God for great nurses!!

This week has been fun & full with a visit from our good friends PNG SIL Carrie & Gavin Jones. Both helped us throughout the night of Jon’s accident at the Ukarumpa clinic. What an amazing couple! We are so blessed to call them friends!! (Oh, and did I mention they are parents to quints?!)

10985468_10152756670587252_2468199379811322074_nWe also spent time with our dear longtime friends Tim & Kay Hughes on their way to Png. What a wonderful & encouraging time with them! smile emoticon Even celebrated Kay’s birthday while she was here. Good talks, laughs & fun with them. We were sad to see them go.

This past week has been a blessing to us & a boost to our spirits, to feel encouraged & loved on. God knows when we need that, doesn’t He?

How are we doing? We are starting to feel tired & yes, impatient in the “waiting game.” It’s hard to wait. It’s hard to sit still isn’t it? And sometimes when God asks you to Be Still, it’s because He wants our full attention to speak to our hearts. To trust Him. (“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations.” Ps 46:10)

Pray for us as we wait. Pray we don’t lose heart. It’s so easy to get discouraged. We know God works all things together for our good. Pray for wisdom for the next steps.

Thank you for your cards, packages, emails, Fb messages, blog messages. Even if we aren’t able to write back to everyone. Know that your thoughtfulness means so much to us!!! What a great support team we have in you guys!!!

“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! (Psalms 27:13, 14 NKJV)

We have been praying for you and your family since we learned of your accident. We were missionaries in Thailand from 1966 to 1991 with NTM. Gene’s sister Carol was in PNG for many years as well. She worked with the Yagaria people as well and was a translation checker.
I am thankful that we can get your updates now. We live in Columbia, Mo.

Thank you for the great update. You are making progress!! PTL!!! You are in my prayers daily. God is sooo good. I am so glad Kay & Tim had a chance to spend a few days with you. Oh my! to see Jon struggle the first time on those crutches, just made me cry. Such determination. Bless your heart. Adie, you are doing an amazing job being a caregiver. What would Jon do without you? I hear that all the time as I do what I can for Lyle. It’s not easy to have the patience necessary sometimes. Just keep waiting on the Lord!

    Love in Christ, Delores Hanson
