The Leedahls Update – Jan. 20, 2015

A week full of REST!!! Nowhere to go, just home sweet home, sleeping in, Jon researched prostethics, 1-3 hours of exercise daily, daily home health visits, boys playing happily at home, making meals, just doing LIFE together finally. It’s just what we all needed.

As you can imagine, with all the down time, there is time to process what has happened in our lives, it’s still a lot to wrap our minds around. There is no going back to the same old way of life. We are learning together what family life looks like now and know these changes will continue to change: but God knew-He knew! And isn’t all life fluid anyway? I think part of our journey in life is learning how to trust God completely when things don’t make sense in our minds.

10940465_10152699314382252_2258198765364112506_nMedical report: Today was Jon’s CT scan & orthopedic consult. Dr Bryson would like Jon to wait 4 wks for crutches. He doesn’t want to risk Jon’s leg or ankle giving out. But he okay’d walking with a walker.

Jon’s stump wound was cleaned and it’s still a little deep. He also has a small dead spot on his foot that they’re watching that needs changing as well. So I was taught wound care and will change his bandages daily. Pray he doesn’t get an infection as it is still possible with two open wounds and living in a really hot and humid place.

Jon also starts compression wraps to shape his stump for his prostethic. Pray all goes well with that and any fluid in Jon’s stump doesn’t affect the process.

Jon is slowly weaning himself off the Lyrica and only using it at night for his phantom pains. So we’ve had more chances to talk together.

We are so very thankful to you all for continuing to pray for us!!!! It’s so important to keep it up as this is just the beginning of a long road ahead of us!!! But we serve a BIG God with BIG plans, don’t we?

“He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight.” – 2 Cor. 5:5-7 ESV

You guys are just amazing with the way you encourage all of US!! Many here in Seattle are praying for you and following your always helpful, inspiring blogs. It’s pretty pale in comparison to your journey, but our Super Bowl bound Seahawks Quarterback Russell Wilson is a biblical Believer who credits God with enabling him to not quit when the going was tough in our NFC championship game. Wilson led Seattle to an amazing comeback victory in the last 4 minutes of a seemingly “hopeless” game. The same God who did that and let Israel thru the Red Sea is on your side. Be filled with hope!

We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers . God bless you all.

  11. We continue to pray for you and follow your progress. Has any physiotherapist or anyone else mentioned mirror box therapy to help with phantom pains? First read about it in a book last year called “The brain that heals itself”. May be worth Googling.
Every blessing from us with MAF in Mt Hagen

been following your progress and informing our church as well and as I read about the meds you have to take with phantom leg pains ,oops just read the above post, but have seen a Dr who has had great success with mirror therapy in returned soldiers from Iraq with amputated limbs.
