Jon Leedahl Update – Nov. 3, 2014 @ 7:00 a.m. CT

Jon & Adie - 110314

It has been three days since surgery on Jon’s left foot, and the skin grafting on his right thigh. Today the doctors changed the dressings, and praise the Lord, it all looks good!

Jon then received a full plaster cast from below the knee to the foot. The brace remains, giving stability to the knee. Jon will not be putting any weight on that foot for 6 to 8 weeks. At some point he will receive the first of several surgeries on his knee, but it is yet to be determined when that will happen.

When can he can be fitted for his first prosthesis? Not until after the stump and the skin on his thigh heal. No projections as to when that will be.  We are also told that he will not be walking with a prosthesis until his left leg is strong.

Today I was in Jon’s room when the mail arrived. You should have seen how his eyes lit up and how much he enjoyed reading the cards and notes. And the pleasant look on his face as he scrolled through Facebook posts and read his email. We are so thankful for God’s provision!

Late afternoon tomorrow we hope to wheel Jon along the Promenade and over to a restaurant that looks appealing to him. He is looking forward to getting out of his hospital room, into green space and fresh air, and eating some flavorful, protein-rich food.

“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not; They are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:23. 24

Specific Prayer Requests:

  1. Pray for continued healing of the skin graft, the stump, and the foot.
  2. Pray that Jon could get some longer stretches of sleep. He is exhausted, not only from all the surgeries, but also from his sleep being constantly interrupted, day and night.
  3. Praise God that Jon is experiencing much less pain.
  4. Praise for the wonderful support network that our great God has provided to Jon and family.
  5. Praise for the continued opportunities in the hospital to give testimony to our Lord God’s greatness and goodness.

Cards and notes may be sent to:

Jon, I found out about your accident through Jason and Jamie Brewer (we were in class together at the JAARS Center back in 2011). I’m watching with awe and thankfulness as God ministers to you and your family through the doctors, friends, and His loving compassion. I will continue to pray for your speedy recovery. • You are very much in our prayers and we praise the Lord for the continued grace He gives you as you face each new day. Great that HE gave the promise when HE said GO that HE also promised to be with us always. Also promised to never leave nor forsake us. Those statements are as true as when HE spoke at Creation. Thanking God for you and Adie and you three boys.

I am a friend of Adie’s mother and I praise God that healing is going so well. We are praying for you Jon and your family here in King George, VA.

  3. We learned of Jon’s accident from my great niece, Beth, and her husband, Mike Matheson. They serve with Wycliffe and plan to move to PNG in Jan. 2015. We have been praying often for you folks and trusting that the Lord will provide just what is needed each day. Trusting that healing will continue in every way. We have enjoyed the pictures of you and your precious family. We are retired from ministry and live in Kentucky. Our prayers will continue!

So glad to hear the surgery on his foot went well and he is recovering as best he is able to. Saw your husband, Arlo, yesterday and he was sitting upright in a chair, not in the recliner with a blanket on him! I teased him about him being upright. Your mom has been using your apples, did freeze some, but I don’t smell any Apple crisp baking. Cool and cloudy today, little snow in the forecast. Election Day tomorrow, glad the ads will be over, of course, my vote and your Dad’s will cancel each other out. Prayers continue for the whole family.

  7. “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19. Praising our Lord and Savior for successful surgeries, increasing health, and family by your side. May the Lord continue to grant you increase in strength, and health.

Jesus at some points in his earthly ministry only used words to heal. (Matt 8:5-13) Praying for this for you. Praying for increase in strength, daily rest and sleep, continued and complete healing of your right leg, graft site, stump area, and left leg, foot and knee. Praying against any further infection in your body during your entire hospital stay. And that your entire healing process/stay in the hospital will be shorter than expected and anticipated.

Finally praying Romans 8:28 over your heart and family’s.

We are continuing to pray for healing and strength. I know you never imagined your ministry taking the turn it has, but I believe that through this you have touched many lives. Your continued trust in the Lord in the face of severe adversity is a humbling and insprring witness. God Bless.

  14. Dear Adie and Jon ~ I have been following your story from over in Africa, where we are also missionaries with NTM. It has been SUCH a tremendous blessing to see your trust in our heavenly Father. Thank you for glorifying Him throughout this trial. It has also been precious to see your evident love for one another. Keep on looking to Jesus, as you walk through this hardship together, as a family. I will continue to pray for you. Thank you for the updates and for allowing many brothers and sisters in Christ (many whom you don’t even know) to lift you up in prayer.
